Splitgate : The New Best Arena Shooter
FPS games are strikingly popular these days, it’s one of the major genres for many considerable reasons and one of them is, how developers are constantly trying their very best to come up with fresh games that feel good enough to beat their counterparts.
With multiplayer games on the rise and specifically the shooters, people are just loving new concepts in FPS games and one such game that we are going to be talking about today is Splitgate. Splitgate is a free-to-play multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed and published by 1047 Games. It was released in early access on May 24, 2019 for Linux and Microsoft Windows on Steam, and on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on July 27, 2021.
What is Splitgate?
Splitgate has been getting various remarks like “when halo meets portal” or “when halo meets COD” by fans and critics as well. The idea is pretty simple. Splitgate is an arena shooter that aims to grip and captivate people's minds by introducing a huge variety of different modes that’s sure to keep them engaged for quite a while.
The game does both, it’s as simple as a game having the traditional straightforward modes like team deathmatch and could also be a little too complex and keep a track of with all the other features it has to offer. Some other modes that absolutely feel so fresh include VIP, where both the teams have a VIP, who have double the normal health at the expense of not being able to cast portals, you get points for killing the VIPS of course! There’s a mode with a disco ball, which is basically like a more mobile domination or hard-point, and so much more!

Splitgate Gameplay
Its smooth and nice gameplay combined with futuristic concept art and gorgeous visuals make the whole game quite a treat to play, and the fact that it’s a free game makes the whole deal worth sealing. Splitgate is surely the best attempt I’ve seen in years to revive the arena shooter genre, outside of the annual Call of Duty releases. COD and Halo have a natural advantage in that they’re relying on their inbuilt audiences as they have a past that goes way back and even if they do disappoint us fans, people will still choose them for sure including myself.
Splitgate has great chances of finding itself a permanent home under the arena shooter flag, the gunplay is excellent, it has a mechanic that fundamentally changes how you experience arena shooters and above all, it’s free. I’m glad the developers took their time, did a fine job and delivered us gamers with something so good, it seems like nothing’s going to stop Splitgate from being a massive success.

NEW Splitgate Season 0, Battle Pass, and More
According to Splitgate the brand new Season 0 dropped on August 25, 2021 with a slew of upgrades, enhancements, maps, modes, and bug fixes detailed in their patch notes. Here's a summary of the new features and the release trailer from the Splitgate Blog.
New Features:
Karman Station – A reimagining of the original map, Outpost. Karman Station replaces Outpost on our roster of Maps. Those of you who played before the Beta will recognize the similarities, but most importantly, the improvements!
Season 0 Battle Pass – The Battle Pass has 100 Levels of brand-new items, exclusive to the Pass! Included in the Pass are: New Armors, Weapon Skins, Name Tags, Banners, and a Portal Skin! Season Challenges are fully unlocked with the BP!
Contamination – New asymmetrical mode with two teams. The “Contaminated” team starts with Bats only and seeks to frag the “Human” team, who have shotguns. When a Human team member dies, they respawn on the Contaminated team. Game ends when time runs out or if all players are contaminated.
Casual Team Rumble – A new casual playlist with various game modes too wacky for normal casual! Game modes include Contamination, Big Head Snipers, Splitball, and more!
